Choose categories carefully
Your primary category has the strongest influence on which searches you appear for. Pick the most specific option that describes your core business, then add secondary categories only where they genuinely apply.
Complete every relevant field
- Services or products with short descriptions and prices where appropriate
- Attributes such as wheelchair access or free Wi-Fi
- Opening hours, including special and bank holiday hours
- Appointment or booking links
- A description written for customers, not stuffed with keywords
Use real, recent photos
Upload photos of your exterior (so people recognise you), interior, team and work. Add new photos regularly rather than all at once.
Manage reviews well
Ask consistently, reply to every review within a few days, and respond to criticism calmly with an offer to put things right. Prospective customers read your replies as closely as the reviews.
Keep your name honest
Use your real-world business name. Adding keywords or locations to the name breaks Google's guidelines and can lead to suspension.
